Founded by celebrity esthetician Jillian Wright and entrepreneur Nader Naeymi-Rad, the Indie Beauty Expo was established to connect independent beauty and wellness brands. IBE debuted in New York City in August of 2015, and this year was a smash as well, complete with over 200 brands, floral crown-making station, and succulent wall. Below, some of our favorites from this year's NYC expo.

Perfect for pampering, this stuff rubs on your face smoothly, and doesn't leave an oily trace behind. Plus, the superfacial oil smells fresh and calming and not overpowering, with its combo of organic juniper, geranium, and white tea seed. Brooklyn-based Plant Apothecary has a whole line of USDA organic certified beauty products, and partners with BKLYN UNLTD, a nonprofit that helps them employ disabled adults in production and distribution.

We love the idea of adding watermelon seed protein powder to our power-up smoothies, and this USDA organic blend also features beets and dragonfruit, and doubles as a topping for yogurts or salads. Plus, we love the bubbly world-traveling founder of  DOPE (and mom of two), Sylwia Wiesenberg, who dreamed this idea up to compliment her fitness regimen.

Cocoa, espresso, and dark circle reducing? We're more than in! Arizona-based company Kaelen Harwell has a variety of juicy-flavored organic masks and exfoliating scrubs for different skin types, from a lemon-kiwi scrub to a cherry-vanilla to activated charcoal. The company's products are sustainable and organic, and also boast a veritable arsenal of facial toners from brightening strawberry-citrus to purifying orange-basil. And the owner of the company, Kaelen herself, is the real deal in the natural beauty world: she opened her own Pure Aesthetics Natural Skincare School in Tucson to teach a new generation beauty—the natural and organic way.

Rūtz Gentleman's No.44 Cleanser

This organic facial cleanser for guys is a win in our books: it doubles as a tea-tree-infused beard shampoo. Plus, we don't see enough natural gentleman's products on the market. On top of that, we love that Rūtz has everything from organic cleaner to toner to essential oils and household cleaners, all made out in Pittsburgh, PA with a great attitude and inspiration from Reiki, which is a huge part of this company's values. And, as we've learned, there is a heaven, and it is a home that smells of peppermint and lavender—by way of Rūtz' natural non-toxic cleaning spray, which we have been spraying all over the place since the expo.

Made with buriti and cacao extract, this organic hair spray is blowing our minds. (After all, using hair spray typically prompts mega-guilt—a.k.a. the feeling that you're personally responsible for blowing a hole in the ozone layer.) We will definitely be back for more from Long Island hair and styling company L&L

Elements Truffles Ayurveda Chocolate

This stuff from Elements Truffles tastes divine, and apparently it's supposed to inspire meditation—cacao ceremonies are becoming more and more popular. As for the chocolate? It's made in micro-batches in New Jersey from fair-trade organic cacao ethically sourced from Peru, sweetened with local raw honey. Our favorite is the sea salt and organic turmeric

Noyah Organic Edible Lip Balm

Noyah wasted no time telling us how much lip gloss/stick/stain we actually eat in a lifetime (a ton)—and that theirs is the first that's actually edible. Bleh. That terrifying fact aside, we love their organic lip balms for both adults and babies, made with olive oil and beeswax, and their brand-spanking new edible one, on the market soon.

This natural seaweed-based exfoliating cleanser provides tingling peppermint action with exfoliation properties to boot, leaving your face clean and free from dead skin cells and dirt—and feeling uber fresh. Plus, it's got vitamin-E for restorative properties.

Ayurvedic naturals company Shankara was inspired by Bengalaru-based international humanitarian leader and spiritual master Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Their 100% natural products, with some (which you can also sort by Dosha) include the first essential oil deodorants I've seen, all prettily packaged in misty glass bottles, and a very effective Muscle Release body oil ideal for sore joints and muscle aches.
