Flower crowns are gorgeous, and definitely trending—we've seen everyone from Beyonce to Kate Moss rocking the natural green accessory at some point, along with countless people at music festivals, weddings, and bridal showers. There's an undeniable forest-chic appeal, and they seem to be made even more beautiful by the fact that they don't last forever. (Here's how to source your wedding flowers locally and sustainably, according to florists.)

We just love the way they can add rustic, natural beauty to a bride's look, so we enlisted Mark Kintzel, an expert wedding stylist and floral designer, to show us exactly how to do it at home. Instead of paying big bucks for your show-stopping flower crown or a sparkly tiara you'll only wear once, just read the instructions below (and watch the video!) to learn how to make one of your own.

What you need to create the flower crown

The necessary tools to make your own flower crown are fairly inexpensive and accessible, so it's not too difficult of a project to take on. To get started, pick up about of 18” green floral stem wire, in 22 or 24 gauge (available in garden stores or on Amazon), plus 12" green chenille pipe cleaners. You'll also need to buy some fresh flowers and greenery. For an easy option, we recommend using eucalyptus for the greenery, and spray roses and celosia for the flowers. You can buy flowers in the colors that suit you, just make sure they're not too big that they overwhelm the crown—or your head. You'll want to have some pruners and hair pins on hand, as well as some floral glue to attach your flowers to the crown.

Once you become an expert, you can even help your friends out by making floral crowns for them, too—or inviting them over for a crafting and crown making party. If you want to expand to paper flowers too, here are some great tutorials to make your own paper flowers

Watch The Video: A step-by-step guide to making a flower crown

1. Following the video, above, first, completely wrap your floral stem wire with green pipe cleaners. The pipe cleaners provide a soft fit for your head, so you don't have any discomfort from the wires.

2. Using green floral wire, wrap the eucalyptus around the soft pipe cleaner and floral wire base.

3. Trim the flowers you've chosen, leaving about a 1 inch stem.

4. Using floral glue, start gluing the flowers into the greenery.

5. Add smaller flowers to fill in the gaps across the crown. Let the glue dry for a few minutes once you've added the last flower.

6. Secure the crown to your hair by using hairpins, or adding an extra wire and twisting the wires together in the back to complete the crown.

7. Show off your new floral crown to all your friends, or wedding guests.
