How To Make Cheddar-Bacon Dog Treats That Are Way Healthier And Tastier Than Store-Bought

So good, even humans will be tempted to eat them!

January 8, 2018

You know about the sketchy additives and animal byproducts that are present in much of the cheap, conventional dog kibble on the market—so you do your best to opt for a legitimately healthy and safe natural dog food. But are you doing the same with your dog’s treats?

While healthy, natural dog treats do exist from certain brands like Riley’s Organic, most owners don’t realize that it’s incredibly easy to make your dog treats at home from wholesome ingredients that are just as good for pups as they are for humans, like oats and eggs. And that's exactly what you'll find in these treats—along with some drool-worthy cheddar cheese and bacon (they are called treats, after all). Bonus: They're legitimately good enough for humans to eat, so don't feel bad if you give 'em a taste.

To make them, watch the video above and follow the simple recipe below.

Cheddar Bacon Dog Treats

Makes about 10 treats

1 ½ cups rolled oats
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
4 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
2 eggs

1. Preheat oven to 350 F.

2. Add oats, cheese, and bacon to the bowl of a food processor and process until ingredients reach a crumb-like consistency.

3. Add two eggs to food processor and process until mixture resembles a sticky dough.

4. Sprinkle flour or finely ground oats onto a wood cutting board and roll out dough to about ¼” thick. Using a cookie cutter, cut out dough into desired shape.

5. Transfer dog treats to a parchment-lined baking sheet and cook for 20 minutes.

6. Cool treats completely and store in an airtight class or plastic container.
